We have often been described as ‘the one that looks like a fire station,’ our building has an unusual but characteristic tower and brick exterior. We are on the mount, opposite the shops, and panoramic views of the city can be seen in all directions, if anyone is brave enough to climb the tower’s ladder! It is a modern building, built in 1982 and predates most of the surrounding houses and estates that it overlooks. It’s interior uses copious quantities of concrete and breeze blocks, considered ugly by most people, including many of our congregation! However, we are a house dedicated to the worship of God. Our church was consecrated by the Bishop of Peterborough on the 10th of July in 1982.
Although we are a modern church, we have a number of items that are more traditional (our font and choir stalls), that have been brought from other churches. This helps to remind us that however old or young we are, we are part of a timeless organisation - one that values all that has gone before and looks forward in hope to what will be.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."
