We are very proud of our church’s commitment to becoming an Eco Church, and we are undertaking many steps and projects that will enable us to achieve this, to better care for God’s creation. Our efforts include:
management of our Carbon Footprint;
use of materials and resources;
waste production/management;
conservation of our grounds and its nature.
Our efforts range from providing bird boxes for Swifts, buying products that are recycled, recycling and re-using some of our waste where possible. We try hard to encourage walking, cycling and car sharing when possible - though we have not installed a composting toilet…yet!
All of our efforts are aimed at our diocese journey of achieving net zero.
Eco Church
Eco Church is an amazing award created by 'A Rocha UK' and is completely free of charge for parishes to use. It looks at the five key areas of church life:
Worship and Teaching
Buildings
Land
Community and Global Engagement
Lifestyle
All actions taken, both little and large, count towards a prestigious Eco Church Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
A Rocha is an international network of environmental organisations with Christian ethos. A Rocha, which means "the rock" in Portuguese, and was founded in Portugal in1983. Their mission is to make God's love for His world known by demonstrating how to practically care for it through scientific research, advocacy, environmental education and sustainable community-based conservation programmes.
To help us achieve this, our efforts are guided and co-ordinated by our Eco Group leaders/members. We have currently earned our Bronze award. See the button below to find out more.
Psalm 96: 1-3
“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous deeds among all peoples.”
